When preparing for your newborn baby, you have a lot of things on your to-do list! If you forget to book your newborn photos before baby arrives, you may panic and think you missed your opportunity. A frequently asked question by clients is “can I still book photos if my baby is over two weeks old?”. While I always encourage booking in the second trimester to ensure you have a date reserved, it is possible to photograph the newborn season past the two week mark!
I recommend booking newborn photos to photograph baby at around the 2 week mark for several reasons. Doing this gives you peace of mind that I have your date reserved on my calendar, gives you ample time to plan for outfits, and crosses off an item on your to-do list. Taking photos at around the 2 weeks mark also means baby will be sleepy for photos.
However, there are a variety of reasons why you may not book your session before baby arrives. You may want more time to recover before taking photos, your baby might need some time in the NICU, you may have family coming and going to visit your family. Whatever the reason may be, newborn photos can absolutely be taken after the two week mark. It is likely that baby will be more alert the older they are, but that’s not always a case (nor should it be a deterrent the photos are still precious if they’re awake!). Babies are typically considered to be in the newborn stage until about 8-12 weeks of life, so it is possible to photograph that special season past the two week mark!
Whether you’re currently pregnant or baby has already arrived, documenting this brief and precious season is so important. If you’re in the Central Illinois area and are ready to book your newborn photos, I would love to hear from you! Reach out on my contact page to begin reserving your date.
