“I don’t know why I bother with family photos.”
That’s what Tricia said just an hour before we started this sunflower field session. And honestly? If you’re a parent, you’ve probably had that same thought once or twice—especially when everything feels like it’s falling apart before the session even begins.
Their baby had taken a five-minute car nap at 12:30 p.m. and refused to sleep again. By 5 p.m., they were driving in circles around Peoria hoping he’d snooze. Her husband had just come off a double shift thanks to a last-minute schedule change. No one was at their best. And yet… the session turned out to be something really special.
The truth is, family photos don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. You don’t need perfectly cooperative kids, styled hair, or a picture-perfect mood to create meaningful images.
This sunflower session wasn’t about posing or performing. It was about presence—about showing up, choosing connection over control, and trusting that these fleeting moments matter, even when they’re messy.
If you’re thinking about scheduling family photos but worried about chaos or cooperation, you’re not alone. Life with little ones is unpredictable, and sessions are often a reflection of that. That’s why my approach is relaxed, child-led, and centered on connection—not perfection.
We keep things simple: play, explore, snuggle, pause. And whether we’re surrounded by wildflowers in a field or cozy at home, the goal is the same—to capture the love you share in the season you’re in.
This particular session took place just outside Peoria in one of my favorite sunflower spots. These blooms are usually at their peak in mid-to-late summer and offer a soft, golden backdrop that feels warm, wild, and joyful.
If you’re in Peoria, IL or the surrounding area and want family photos that feel like you—messy bedtime schedules, unpredictable toddlers, and all—I’d be honored to help. Click here to reach out and begin planning your session.
Let’s create something meaningful together. Not perfect. Just honest and beautiful.
