If you’re preparing for your in-home newborn photos, you might be wondering how you can prepare your home. Let me preface this post by saying that I am passionate about the fact that your photos are IN your home, not ABOUT your home. The focus on your newborn photos is not to perfectly capture the details of your house, it’s to perfectly capture the details of your new baby and growing family.
That being said, I love to help my clients feel prepared every step of the way. Here are my suggestions for ensuring your in-home newborn photos go smoothly.
Be open to the space with the best light
Some families carefully decorate their nurseries and want that photographed. Some families are on the verge of moving, weren’t able to finish the nursery, or have a nursery with very poor light. My number one recommendation is to be open to using the space in your home that has the most natural sunlight. Your images will turn out the most beautiful if we have ample amount of light!
Remove clutter
It doesn’t matter if you shove everything into a laundry basket and stick it in a closet (or let me help you with that, I’m always happy to help you the morning of your session!). Decluttering will space put the focus on your family.
Have any sentimental items handy
Want to include an heirloom crib? A special monogrammed outfit? The bow you wore in your own newborn photos? Separate all of those (including a backup outfit or two in case baby has a blowout!) so we have them handy the morning of.
